Arouca Geopark
Arouca Geopark, corresponding to the administrative area of the Municipality of Arouca, is renowned for its exceptional geological heritage of international significance, with particular attention to the Trilobite giant Canelas, for Pedras da Castanheira Parideiras and the Ichnofossils Valley Paiva.
The rich geological and natural heritage inventory, covering a total of 41 geological features, is the basis for Arouca Geopark project, coupled with a territorial development strategy will ensure the protection, promotion and use. At the same time and complementarity are associated with other important values such as archaeological, ecological, historical, sporting and cultural activities and the facilitation of ethnography, crafts and cuisine of the region, with a view to attracting a high quality tourism based the values of Nature and Culture.
Many of these sites of interest are integrated in the intense network of walking trails, a total of 13, with a view to developing and publicizing and promoting this priceless heritage.
